Mixed start to Adult Winter League

ROYSTON Men’s I team got their winter season off to the worst possible start recently.

Andy Holmes, Richard Fosbeary, Mike Fellingham and John Holmes lost 8-0 away at Great Shelford IIIs before they were awarded a victory in their next match at home to St Neotts who were unable to raise a team.

The Men’s IIs of John Goodbody, David Addison, John Holmes and Mike Fellingham secured a 7-1 win at home to Risbygate.

The Ladies team of Christine Knight, Pru Burton, Kathryn Betts and Della Gibson trounced Cambridge IIIs at home 7-1 in their first match.

The Mixed first team played their opening match in the top division and were narrowly beaten 5-3 by Buckden Is at home with players Roger Maybury, Kathryn Betts, Matt Fellingham and Christine Knight. The Mixed IIs team drew both their matches 4-4 at home to Exning Is and away to Papworth Is with players Alan Knight, Karin Lambert, David Addison, John Holmes, Emma Windred, John Goodbody and Kathryn Betts.

Membership is now being offered at a half-year rate for the period up until March, 31, 2011 and will include the opportunity to play on the new courts being built at Therfield Heath. The six new floodlit courts are expected to be completed by the end of November.
