Meldreth trio roll into semi finals

MELDRETH trio of Malcolm Chapman, Bernie Sewell and skip Kevin Stanford made it through to the county semi-finals after beating city of Ely three skipped by Gordon Catchpole.
The Meldreth three were always in control of the match after taking an early 10-1 lead. Ely fought back to 11-7 but the home side powered on to pick up five shots on the 15th end to run out 22-15 winners.
They will now face Mark Law from Chesterton and both the ladies and men’s semi-finals will be played at Meldreth on Wednesday, July 7 at 6.30pm.
Malcolm Chapman also progressed into the singles quarter-finals after beating Andy Nightingale from Cambs and County. The score was 11-11 after 14 ends but Malcolm then edged ahead to win 21-14.
Meldreth suffered their first 7-0 whitewash of the season in the County League away at Balsham but hope to get their revenge when they entertain them at home today (Thursday).
Meldreth had better luck in their Meldreth and District league match at Duxford after winning 6-1 with wins for a trio skipped by Mavis Chapman, Barbara Clutterbuck and Don Sheldrick with Malcolm Chapman losing by one shot.
They also had a good win in the Kenzie Cup at Barrington winning 92-51. Roy Smith won 25-13, Barbara Clutterbuck 22-8 and Malcolm Chapman 31-7.Dave Cooper lost 14 -23.
Barbara Clutterbuck was unlucky to lose in her quarter-final match in the Champion of Champions when she was beaten 21-18 by Doreen Smith of Newnham with her last shot.
