A DOMINANT performance on rink two helped Meldreth win the Ken Gilbert Trophy for the first time on Friday.

The competition is played on a four rinks of four format, with Meldreth facing Chesterton in the final at the Cambs and County green in Brooklands Avenue,

Many of the players from each team bowl together at Chesterton during the winter indoor season and so it was friend against friend, as well as club against club!

The match was very exciting to watch as two Meldreth rinks soared ahead at the beginning and two were fairly level for most of the game - but the end result was a fantastic win for Meldreth on all four rinks, with a shot score in our favour of 93 to 64.

Stan Chapman, Ged Burns, Ken Lee and Kevin Stanford led the way with a 25-11 win on rink two, with rink one finishing as a 22-16, rink three 23-18 and rink four 23-19.

Meldreth was represented again this year at the National Ladies Finals in Leamington Spa, as Barbara Clutterbuck had won the Cambridgeshire Champion of Champions competition.

At Leamington on Thursday, he lost 21-17 to a bowler from Oxfordshire, who went on to reach the semi-final of the competition.

On Sunday Meldreth's mixed team reached the final of the Kenzie Cup - beating Little Shelford in an excitingly close game, which could have gone either way right to the end.
