Poor finishing cost Great Chishill dear once more as Melbourn took the points in a closely-fought encounter.
Chishill have now failed to score in two consecutive games, but almost took the lead through Jonathan Drury, who dragged his right foot shot wide from just inside the box.
The only goal of the game arrived midway through the first half, when a Melbourn player guided a looping header into the net following a corner.
Chishill keeper Ian Gallagher was at full stretch moments later, turning away a cross-shot from Melbourn's Ian Francis, and the home side were dealt a further blow when influential winger Gary Radford limped off just before half-time with a foot injury.
Melbourn looked the more likely scorers in the second half, but the Chishill defence stood firm.
