Melbourn Squash Club 1sts have won a relegation play-off to retain their Division One place for next season.
The team finished second bottom of the league at the end of the regular season and faced a play-off against Division Two runners-up Leys in an attempt to preserve their top flight status.
The match took place at Cambridge University, and Melbourn were struggling when Dan Easton was beaten 3-1 and Mark Oppen went down 3-2 leaving Leys two strings ahead.
However Melbourn’s strength at the top of the order shone through as Matt Sampson, Vinod Duraikan and Joe Weavers all won 3-0 to turn the match around and secure the club’s spot in the top flight of county squash for next season.
Skipper Mark Oppen said: “The team’s efforts and match results through the season have all been vital in contributing to us remaining in the division so am thrilled with our result.”
