Melbourn keep away record intact

Melbourn maintained their 100 per cent away record with a comfortable 3-1 win against Duxford Reserves.

After a slow opening five minutes, Melbourn were rampant, creating chance after chance without converting until the 17th minute when Lee cross was controlled and finished by Martyn Lees.

More goals looked on the cards for the visitors but they couldn’t convert their dominance into a more convincing advantage.

An injury to Dwayne Wilkins saw the introduction of John Sell at half-time. Sell had been out with a knee injury and it re-occurred in the game just at the wrong time and Duxford levelled.

Melbourn regrouped and surged forward but it took a fortuitous goal, going in off Benny Wright’s back, to put them back in front.

The goal settled the away side and they extended their lead on 79 minutes when captain Michael Wagstaff netted his third goal of the season.

With a two-goal lead, Melbourn brought on Joshua Cantle. The youngster impressed with his crossing and passing from the right wing and may have put himself in contention for more first team appearances.
