MELBOURN visited the challenging four-rink green of Mitchell Lodge last Tuesday and achieved their seventh consecutive victory in the Cambs & District league division one with their first 7-0 win of the season.
Jim Gillings returned to the team from holiday and showed no signs that he had lost his touch. Despite bowling on the trickiest of the four rinks he had a commanding lead of 17-1 by the 12th end. Although slipping towards the end, his rink still won by nine shots, 20-11.
Robert Dodds had a good game against a strong Mitchell Lodge rink. Despite being five shots behind on the 10th end, he pulled up and edged a 15-14 victory.
Another very close game was had on Rod Sell's rink. They did maintain the lead for the majority of the game however, picking up five on the 13th end and winning 16-14 in the end.
The biggest victory of the night came from Peter Dodds, continuing his excellent recent form with his regular playing partner Mick Kernaghan. They won by 26 shots dropping just four singles throughout the match, to give Melbourn an over all 81-43 win.
Melbourn held their annual Open Triples tournament on Sunday, sponsored by Paul Ferris of Kneesworth Mini-cabs.
With 24 teams to keep refreshed and entertained for the day it was a challenging day for all those club members who gave up their time.
Mick Davey's team from Cambs & County were eventual winners, winning three out of four in the group stage, and then beating George Rusted's team from Duxford in the final who were themselves late entrants to the competition.
