Camden United 0 Melbourn 5

MELBOURN saw off lowly Camden United but it was a result that flattered a Melbourn team not because of a close contest but because a lack of concentration and discipline meant that the result could honestly have been at least triple what it ended.

Indeed, Melbourn could already have been five to the good when Kris Watters' lobbed shot went in for the opener.

Lee Edmans made it two when a Chaz Hassen cut back left him with a relatively comfortable finish and although Camden gave as good as they had they did not threatened the Melbourn goal in the first half.

Jon Patman in particular ensured that any attack they had was swiftly cut off long before reaching the box.

Melbourn created chance after chance and Carl Chadwick was unlucky not to have a goal at half-time, hitting the woodwork with his best chance after some fine dribbling from wide.

The second half carried on with Melbourn camped in the Camden half.

After two minutes a Chadwick cross from the left went all the way across the box and Hassen was on hand to unleash an unstoppable left foot volley across goal and into the bottom corner for Melbourn's third.

Shortly after and Watters had his second with a crisp finish following Andrew Morris running the full length of the pitch with the ball.

Melbourn should have gone on to make this game a cricket score but instead appeared to lose interest in the game.

Work rate dropped, arrogance crept in and soon Camden were creating chances as the hitherto redundant Mark Ferrari had to make a fine reaction save following a corner to ensure the clean sheet.

Melbourn's fifth goal came near to the end with Watters completing his hat-trick.

Andy Richardson showed grit and determination to win the ball and Ash Bryan then played a defence splitting ball that Watters ran on to before the striker finished superbly with a chip over the already committed goalkeeper.

The result moved Melbourn into second in the division but performances will need to improve if they are to maintain any sort of charge for promotion.
