JM Judo club entered 13 of its members into the Area Christmas tournament at Roysia Middle School, and each of its entrants was awarded with medal places.

The club are based at the school so its fighters were competing in familiar surroundings and pride of place went to both Edward Shannon and Tom Fox.

Both combatants faced four opponents in their round robin matches, and both came out with maximum points from their bouts.

Fox earned one Ippon win with a resounding O Goshi hip throw, which is fast becoming his trademark throw, and Shannon battled his way to gold with some excellent judo, including coming from behind in one bout to win with a Waza'ari score to clinch his medal.

Alfie Massmann-Brown was another of the JM fraternity to take a deserved gold with a resolute performance against good opposition, winning all his bouts with maximum points.

Likewise Thomas Raymen won all of his, taking the gold with a hard fought decision win against a higher graded opponent.

Neil Smith saw a welcome return to form winning his green belt pool with maximum efficiency and Chloe Fisher enjoyed a return to the competition arena with yet another gold for the club.

Other performers who fought well include Jordan Hall, who came away with the first of the club's silver medals and Rachel Shannon who won a great duel with two other girls to take the another silver.

Many of the Bronze medallists were stepping out in the club's colours for the first time and great credit went to Max Logan who fought with great determination to take his bronze, as did Bradley Church in the same category.

Jake Gifford was rewarded with a bronze in his category and the ever-improving Sophie Shannon faced a difficult section against five girls to win through to claim a bronze for herself.

The club's lone senior entry was William Hughes who, at just 17 years old, claimed a bronze despite facing much older opponents

Next week the club enjoy their presentation night and some surprises are in store for the many category winners.

Parents are urged to reserve their seats in time for the eagerly anticipated 'Derby' race and the award of the annual trophies.
