JENNIE McGuigan retained her crown as Ladies Club Champion at Royston Golf Club at the weekend.

The three-handicapper and regular County player trailed Sarah Buckerfield by a shot after the first round but eventually won by two shots after playing the last five holes in level par.

Buckerfield finished second ahead of Emma Logan and Lynn Barker while the Bronze trophy was won by Jenny Thompson, just edging out Gill Drewery.

Once again an eighteen-hole play-off will be required to determine the winner of the prestigious Viscount Hampden Bowl after Steve de Fraine and Colin Clark tied with nett 65 in tricky conditions on Sunday.

Clark birdied the final hole, while de Fraine birdied the last two. Chris Trimble was unlucky not to make the play-off after his 66 fell just short.

Lee Bonney also won the Medal on Saturday with an excellent score of 67 in testing conditions. The eight-handicapper played some steady golf to finish just a shot ahead of Ben Bennett. New member, James Hayden took third spot with a 69.

The Thursday Medal was won by Past Captain, Bob Turner and he was the only player to break par with a 69. Turner has been in cracking form as he also won the Vets Tankard a few days before with a fine 66.

Gill Drewery has been having a fantastic year and once again she picked up another trophy as she won the Ladies Veterans Cup. Played as a stableford event, she recorded 31 points in tricky, blustery conditions to edge past Jenny Jarvis, Pam Bonnett, Evelyn Fenton and Marjory Humphreys.

Meanwhile, Chris Hoote won the Men’s Medal with nett 68 while Graham Clark won the Tom Hyde Trophy ahead of Steven Ogilvie in second place.
