THE new season of men's trophy competitions kicked in with the pairs better ball Barn Trophy at Heydon Grange Golf & Country Club. Although there was a deep frost, competitors were able to use the full greens thanks to some challenging pin positions by the greenkeeper. As his captain's year begins, Malcolm Knobel-Forbes (12) was hoping to start with a positive performance by defending the title he and partner Adam Barker (3) secured last year. They did so in emphatic style with 45 points off 3/4 handicap - four points clear of nearest rivals Graham Handscombe and Steve King. Not to be outdone by her husband, Elaine Knobel-Forbes (23) took the honours in the first ladies' qualifying stableford competition of the year at Heydon Grange with 38 points, narrowly pushing Tammini Hurst (22) into second place by one point.
