Longstanton (216-4)

Longstanton won by six wickets.

ASHWELL'S trip to table topping Longstanton ended in defeat with their total of 212-6 being overhauled by Longstanton for the loss of four wickets and with 11 balls to spare.

On the back of successive wins, Ashwell entered the game with some confidence and despite the early loss of Steve Parkhouse for 7, Tim Moynihan (40) and Tom Wallace (18) took the score past 50 without further loss.

The introduction of Andy Aspinall (4-48) into the attack caused Ashwell's batsmen problems though, and with the fall of Moynihan (40), Ashwell were 89-3.

Matt Skelding and Jonathan Merrell added 42 for the fourth wicket, with Skelding attacking anything short of a length on his way to 27, and with the Longstanton ground playing host to some big scores this season, it was important that Merrell (65no) and the other middle order batsmen pushed on - in the end a total of 212 was probably around par.

Longstanton's openers made their intentions clear with two sixes in the very first over while an out-of-sorts Martin Talks couldn't make a breakthrough.

Longstanton had scored 101 before Graham Scott (2-26) made a breakthrough, and the slower bowlers restricted the flow of runs.

However Longstanton were never really under any pressure to hit out and increase the tempo so while other wickets fell to Alex Griffin (1-38) and Martin Talks (1-58) the hosts prolonged their unbeaten record thanks to Dalton's innings of 73 and Aspinall's 52no.

Ashwell's two remaining fixtures are against similarly relegation threatened teams in Over and Burwell.
