Litlington 3 Duxford United Reserves 3 (Litlington won 5-4 on penalties)

AFTER picking up their first point of the season in the league, Litlington's attention switched to the Lower Junior Challenge Cup where they faced a Duxford Reserves team who had been in terrific form so far this season.

Duxford started the game brightly with their strikers causing Litlington problems but on the odd occasion that they did manage to get past the centre back pairing of Kyle Wilson and Craig Ellis they found Ben Bonfield again in splendid form.

Duxford did however take the lead midway through the first half only for Litlington to reply almost immediately when a perfect free kick floated in by Salim Choudhury was headed home by the brilliant Stephen Crosse for his first ever goal for Litlington.

Duxford re-took the lead in the second half after the Litlington defence played for offside only for the Duxford striker to sneak in from an onside position and slot home and while Litlington tried to get back into the game their strikers had only scraps to feed on.

In a move which was hoped to add more creativity to the centre of the park manager Ashley Hawkins switched James Evans into centre midfield and Paul Harris moved upfront alongside James Weir.

Just when it seemed as if Litlington had run out of ideas, captain marvel Gary Reader fired in Litlington's equaliser with a scorching free kick from all of 30 yards.

Reader, who had been rested to prepare for this game, also played a pivotal role in Litlington's third when his free kick was nodded in by the returning Evans in the first period of extra time.

Duxford however showed great fight back qualities themselves and scored their third in the second period of extra time to force penalties.

Litlington scored all five of their penalties through Liam Butler, Weir, Reader, Choudhury and Harris with the victory sealed when Bonfield saved Duxford's final penalty.

Hawkins said: "I am pleased with my players this week. Duxford were probably the best opponents we have had so far this season so to get a result against them was brilliant.
