Royston Ladies III 1

A DEPLETED Royston team gained a key victory in their fight against relegation.

The visitors soon got into the flow of playing together as a team and there was wonderful play down the right from Gemma Hoad and Sarah Warner.

Fifteen minutes into the game this finally paid off with player of the match Helen Miles putting a lovely ball out to Gemma Hoad who passed the ball to Sarah Warner who placed the ball perfectly to Lisa Thompson in the D to blast the ball into the back of the Rothamsted net.

The second half saw the visitors defence work hard, and great defending from Katie Ellard, Alice Wilkes and Sarah Holland and were fortunate when a Rothamsted goal was disallowed.

Royston continued to put the Rothamsted defence under pressure with shots at goal from Hoad, Thompson and Jo Pearce and were unlucky not to score again

Rickmansworth II 8

Royston II 1

A BELOW par Royston failed to come to terms with both the conditions and a hardworking Rickmansworth side.

Having lost the toss Royston were asked to attack a low setting sun for the first 30 minutes of the game.

The first half started badly with Royston gifting an opening goal to the opposition with a misplaced pass directly to the centre forward.

This encouraged the home side and they continued to capitalise on poor passing and slow ball release to build a commanding 4-0 lead at half- time.

Royston started the second half more positively and quickly reduced the deficit through a Malcolm Langford-Clarke strike.

Any hopes of a comeback were dashed as the home side increased their lead on the counter attack, Rickmansworth continuing to exploit gaps, and running out easy winners. rs, but it was not to be.
