Lee reigns supreme in Manchester

Royston Tennis Club round-up
ROYSTON Tennis Club junior player James Lee won an open tennis tournament in Manchester recently.
Thirteen-year-old James walked away with the trophy at the event having beaten off the opposition in four hard-fought rounds, and he now is now ranked 13th in the county for his age.
Meanwhile, Royston Tennis Club held another successful Touch Tennis tournament in Royston Sports Centre recently. There were 45 entrants and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the event. Ethan Davy won the U9 section while Alex Moss was the runner-up. Gareth Byles won the U13s with George Pemberton runner-up.
Toby Jackson won the U17 section with Isaac Pickett as runner-up. In the Herts Junior League the mini orange U8 team of Owen Wood, Thomas Cockman, Libby Wisdom and Ben Ebberson lost away to Standon & Puckeridge.
The Adults finally managed to start the Vets matches in the Cambs League having been snowed off for the initial rounds. First out were the Vets IIs team of John Holmes, Roger Maybury, Kathryn Betts and Sally Muddiman who lost 7-1 away to Exning firsts.
Kathryn and Sally had to help out in the first match for the First Team due to injuries and with Erwin Phillips and Mike Fellingham gained a hard-fought 5-3 win at home to Cambridge IIs. All three Vets teams were out on Saturday – the First Team were away to Saffron Walden and Roger Maybury, Mike Fellingham, Pru Burton and Christine Knight lost 6-2.
The IIs also lost 6-2 away to Cambridge IVs, players were John Holmes, David Addison, Kathryn Betts and Emma Windred. The Vets IIIs including Vicky Hawkins, Doug Higgins, Yvonne Rogers and Jeremy Tuck beat Needingworth IIs 5-3 at home.
