LEAGUE leaders Cokenach headed over to middle of the table Weston Colville II for their first meeting of the season, after the previously arranged game between the two sides was called off because of rain.

Weston Colville decided to put Cokenach in to bat.

With Colville's first team not having a game, they were allowed to include two first team players.

Adam Wardell and Peter Clarke opened the innings, and after a steady start Clarke was caught behind.

However Matt Stevens came in and put on another decent partnership.

The drinks break probably disturbed his concentration, and he was caught-and-bowled first ball after the break. This left Cokenach at 75-2 off 20.1 overs.

Rychard Field and Adam Wardell then consolidated the innings, but overs were beginning to tick away.

When Field was run out it brought Phil Seale to the crease. With only seven overs left and the score on 130, quick runs were vital to set a challenging target.

Wardell pushed his score to a superb 84, a fantastic knock, and his second league 50 in two weeks.

Seale hit a cameo 23 off 15 balls, putting the field under pressure on each run, including a six which was just a run two with four overthrows.

In addition, a couple of late hits from Nigel Sirett took the score up to a respectable 189-8 off 40 overs.

Weston Colville were never really in the chase, in the face of great bowling from Field, Clarke and John Ford.

Peter Clarke picked up six wickets, as Colville eventually finished on 130 all out.

Continuing their excellent form, which has already delivered the Saracens League Division 13 championship, Reed III convincingly beat Pirton on Saturday.

The hosts, who are going into Division 11 next year, batted first, and struggled to come to terms with Reed's young attack.

Excellent spells from Chris West (3-26), Marcus Baker (2-19) and skipper Kieran Ward (3-13) kept Pirton's batsmen in check with the home side accumulating 163 in 42 overs.

However this proved to be well short of the runs needed to stretch Reed, who reached their target without losing a wicket, in just 29 overs.

Both openers made half-centuries, with 15-year-old Tom Greaves scoring an elegant 53, and 17-year-old Kieran Ward a hard-hitting 83.

On this showing Division 12 should hold no fears for this youthful team next season.
