TWO DION Jones goals helped Celtic to victory, on Sunday.

The game opened with both sides evenly matched until the Baldock keeper was forced to make an excellent save to deny Will Dickerson.

This gave Celtic more confidence, and a Ryan Waller free kick forced a goalmouth scramble leading to Mitchell Cooper giving them the lead.

Jones scored their second with an acrobatic effort just before the break.

In the second half Baldock looked the more lively, taking advantage of the slope.

Excellent defending by Celtic kept them at bay and Celtic stormed upfield, with the Baldock keeper producing a fine save from Cahy's shot - however Jones was there to bag his second.

In the final 10 minutes Drew McCreadie found Dickerson, who broke down the right and a scored a fine solo goal.

Potton Colts U-12 1

Royston Town Colts 1

COLTS recovered from a poor start to grab a point on Sunday.

The visitors conceded a corner inside the first minute.

A comatose Town defence just watched the well-placed cross and Potton took their chance to head in for an early lead.

That fired Royston into action as Brennan seized the initiative, claiming the ball in midfield and shooting just wide.

Then man-of-the-match Louis Townsend won the ball in the air, finding King, who split the defence with a razor-sharp pass, leaving Wills-Wright through on goal with no one to stop him bar the linesman.

Leighton then collected a Potton clearance and scorched down the left wing before cutting back around two defenders and delivering a cross into the box. Heslam was on hand to head forcefully past the keeper and inches wide of the target.

Town's reward finally came when King won yet another ball in midfield and fed Brennan who scored with a long-range shot in the top corner.

In the second half Town dominated all areas of the park and showed excellent ground passing and running skills.

Nicky Garbut broke clear only to send his shot wide, and moments later he fired over the bar.

Further shots from Sartini, King and Leighton rained down on the Potton goal without a result.

Pin Green Juniors U-14 5

Royston Town Colts A 0

WITH leaders Northolt not playing, a win for Royston could have seen them go top of Division Two.

But a well-organised and hard-working Pin Green side had other ideas.

A goal within the first 10 minutes had Royston on the back foot, and only a good save from Jamie Gibbs prevented a second.

Royston had chances to get level, Matt Cooper causing problems with his strength and pace.

It was from a Cooper long throw that Royston had their best chance of the half with Charlie Stafford going close.

Michael Pinner also went close from a free kick, forcing a fine save from the Pin Green keeper.

With five minutes of the half remaining, Jamie Gibbs was called upon to make a brilliant save.

Just one goal down at half time, and with the wind in their favour in the second half, Royston looked as though they were still very much in the game.

But two goals within five minutes of the restart and another 10 minutes later put paid to any chance of a comeback.

Royston, to their credit, did not give up. Charlie McDermott worked hard up front without getting a break.

Substitutes Mitchell York and Sam Robson linked up well in midfield with the tireless Charlie Stafford.

Royston's leading goal scorer Steve Archibald saw his best chance of the game sail high over the bar, shortly before Pin Green added their fifth goal.

Bassingbourn Youth U-10 A 0

Shefford Saints Youth A 3

BASSINGBOURN A were host to Division E front-runners Shefford, and with a few changes to the line-up, they seemed more confident than recently.

Home keeper Tamburello made a string of fine saves, but was finally beaten as Shefford opened the scoring after some good build-up play.

With tough tackling in defence from Fox and Manuel keeping the visitors at bay, Holcroft and Norcross battled hard at the other end, but Shefford kept up the pressure, and hit two more goals.

Bassingbourn Youth U-10 B 0

Shefford Saints Youth B 5

A top-of-the-table clash promised to be a very entertaining, even game but it was the visitors who seemed more up for it, as slick passing and good communication between the players had Bassingbourn on the back foot throughout the game.

When Bassingbourn did attack they were thwarted by good defending and goalkeeping.

It was a lacklustre performance from Bassingbourn, who lost their first game of the season, and relinquished top spot in the league.

Melbourn Dynamos Panthers U-9 3 Bishop's Stortford Athletic 1

PANTHERS prevailed in a competitive cup tie on Saturday.

Dynamos dominated the first half in which they were often first to the ball, with midfielders Sam Bedlow and James Rushton winning important possession.

They took a deserved lead when Ben Webb put the defence under pressure following a fine James Fowkes through ball, leading to a defender putting through his own goal.

Webb soon added a second with a composed finish following good work by Charles Johnson on the left.

Stortford began the second half strongly, spreading the ball around well and soon pulled a goal back with an emphatic finish.

A few minutes later a fine save by Ross Cockburn denied an equaliser, and timely interceptions by Alex Maskell and Fowkes, and strong tackling in midfield by Eddie Twyman, preserved the lead.

Good command of his area by Cockburn kept Panthers in front, and victory was sealed with a good finish by Charles Johnson.
