KINGSWAY Golf Club was the venue for the first YMG Sturgess Classic organised by golf professional Mark Sturgess.

They weather held up and it was a glorious day which matched the play of the juniors.

The classic utilises a flag competition format with each competitor being allocated a number of shots dependant on their age.

The Tigers were given matching shirts and caps for the event and there were prizes for each category, nearest the pin plus overall winner.

Supporting the event was Kingsway Golf Centres and American Golf who donated some of the prizes.

The winners were, age 4-6: 1 Nathan Le May, 2 Morgan Haggar 3, Tate Butterworth; 7-9: Josh Austin, 2 Scott Kivlin, 3 Jack Harrision; 10-2 Toby Bryce-Smith, 2 Conor Masters, 3 Conor Little; 13-16: 1 Joe Peachey, 2 Ross Donaldson, 3 Jacob Isles and Jonathan Phillips.

The nearest the pin went to Jack Harrison and Conor Masters.

The overall winner of the classic was Josh Austin who reached the 12th hole with his allocated shots.

Josh received a trophy plus his name will be the first on the shield for the event that will be held at Kingsaway Golf Centres.

Mr Sturgess said after the event that the level of play from all the competitors was good and he is looking forward to repeating the event next year.
