Royston Town Vets 2

TOWN Vets came away from Birchanger wondering how they had done no better than a 2-2 draw having penned their hosts in their half for virtually the whole of the second period.

In goalkeeper Colin McArthur's absence Nick King donned the goalkeeper's gloves.

Town started brightly with good possession and created several good chances on goal but against the run of play a long ball over the top of the defence left King stranded and a Birchanger forward nipped in to lob the ball over his head and into the goal.

Town continued to press the home defence and were unlucky as efforts from Higginbotham, Leete, Humphries and Daniels were all saved by the home 'keeper.

Indecision in Town's penalty area gifted Birchanger an easy second goal but Town reduced the arrears when Higginbottam lashed in a volley.

Town totally dominated the second half and gave their hosts little respite as wave after wave of attacks blitzed their goalmouth.

Heroic saves by the Birchanger 'keeper and poor finishing by Town's forwards contrived to prevent an equaliser for Town.

However in the last minute of play King ventured forward for a corner and managed to latch onto a loose ball in the six yard area and score a deserved equalising goal.

Town host Goldin Old Boys from Hertford at Garden Walk next Sunday.
