More than 50,000 fans packed the arena to see King's Portable Shade team embark on a remarkably consistent string of runs in qualifying including a best time of 6.314 seconds.
He also reached a personal best speed and track record of 228.39mph.
This consistency propelled him into the final, against Lorenz Stauble. And it was King that prevailed, charging around Stauble in the trophy run-off and getting to the line first in 6.366 seconds.
