JAMES Kidd has been crowned the new Club Champion at Royston Golf Club.

With scratch player Stuart Phillips and defending champion Oli Bance away on county duty, the 36-hole tournament was always going to be a highly-contested affair.

Kidd's one shot victory was set up by a superb one-under-par 69 in the morning, but his faltering afternoon round in the heat, saw him drop five shots on the opening holes.

However, he held his nerve and gathered a final birdie on the 17th hole to finish on six over par for the 36 holes.

Former club champion Robert Clark was runner up after rounds of 74 and 73, and was left rueing several spurned chances on the greens.

Chris Trimble, Marcus Shipley, and Sean Park tied for third with 151, with Park taking the honours in the single figure cup with a nett 139.

The single stableford run alongside the club championship was won by Mick Rowland with an impressive 38 points.

Phil Neep managed to pip Lee Bonney on countback to take the runners-up spot, with both players finishing on 36 points.

Colin Roberts won the Wednesday Trophy, edging out John Fyson on countback, with both players finishing on 39 points. Roberts took the trophy on countback over the last six holes.
