DAN Keogh and Josie Seward both took turkeys ome with them after winning Royston Golf Club's annual christmas Turkey Trort.

The club's main event of the week, the Trot was once again played out in good spirits and was followed by a Christmas dinner.

Keogh and Seward finished top in the foursomes with 39 points, closely followed by the pairing of Geoff Drewery and Karen Pearson whose 38 points earned each of them some ham.

Bob Turner and Val Squires won a bottle of port each for finishing third with 36 points while the pairing of Dave Musgrave and Joan Buckerfiel and that of Mick Joyner and Alice Lewis both won bottles of wine for finishing fourth with 35 points.

The couple who finished fifth were also rewarded for their festive round; Fred Wilding and Kathy Caunce were given Christmas puddings.

Elsewhere at the club, a top-drawer finish by James Sandford saw him win the Division One monthyl medal.

The junior golfer had the lowest gross score of 65 (69 less a four handicap) and finished the round off with fireworks when he clocked up a birdie four and eagle two finish.

Dave Shaw was runner-up with a round of 70, while Alex Bridges (71), Mial Wallace (72) and Colin Clark (73) were close behind.

In the Division Two medal, there were six scored between 69 and 72.

Neil Skehel took first prize with 69 (83 less a handicap of 14) and Gary Fortune came runner-up with an end score of 70, beating Adam Dye on countback. Keith Pitts, Robin Coles and Gary Noble were all just outside the top three.

Dave Cattley almost threw away a winning score in the midweek golfers' stableford as he faltered over the last five holes where he only scored six of his 34 points.

But luckily for him runner-up Keith Wood almost did the same when he scored just six points in his last four holes to take his final tally to 33.

Keith Taylor made a late surge for glory by scoring 13 points in his last five holes, but it was too little too late and he finished with 32 points altogether, a score equalled by Roy Ward, Doug Moule and Mike Taylor.

On the Saturday stableford the morning round was dominated by the higher handicaps.

Winner John White (40 points) beat both Craig Holsen and Paula Offord, who both had 39, into second place.
