A BUSY week of competitions for Royston Golf Club, on The Heath, culminated in past captain John Kelly winning the Sunday February Medal with a net 65 from his 13 handicap. In Division One, Richard Howorth pipped Frank Calvert on countback, both with net 68s. Third was Darren Dawson with a net 69. Kelly was the clear winner of Division Two, with Trevor Deards and John Ellis finishing second and third respectively. With many of the club's top players way on county duty, it was former club champion and greenkeeper Gary Hainsworth who won the scratch prize with 74. The Saturday Stableford was won by Steve Rogers with a magnificent 44 points from his seven handicap, which related to a gross score of one under par. Runner up was Adrian Shoebridge with 38 points. The ladies held a bogey competition last week and three of the ladies reduced their handicaps. Lady captain Jane Drake was the winner at +1, with Sandra Williams taking second place on count-back from past lady captain Tracey Parsons. Bob Lee won the seniors Stableford, on Wednesday, with a brilliant 43 points - a clear five points ahead of runner-up Colin Roberts. Bob's handicap has been reduced to 16. The club has also been awarded the Golf Foundation Starter Centre status in recognition of its work with juniors. This is the second major award for the club and joins the Junior Golfmark award gained last year. The Sean Clark Junior Academy continues to thrive and many of the pupils have gone on to become full junior members of the club. Three members of the club have been awarded scholarship for the forthcoming year. They are Lauren Hunt, Cole Thompson and Lyle Clark.
