THE first fixture of the highly competitive Chiltern Cross Country League took the Royston Crows Junior Athletic Club to Cassiobury Park, Watford at the weekend.

The opening race of the day, the under-11 girls saw outstanding performances from Sophie Jones, who finished eighth despite a fall and Rebecca O'Sullivan finishing in a personal best position of 17th.

Dustin Hone also ran very well to record a significant improvement over last year, finishing 13th in the under-13 boys.

Claire Wood, Conor Paterson and Peter Allen all made very creditable debuts for the Crows and Toby Hone made the difficult transition up to the under-17 boys with a very respectable 12th.

The Crows will be looking to strengthen their squad for the rest of the season to be able to feature more prominently in the team competition.

New members are welcome to join the Crows for training on Monday evenings at 6pm meeting at the Royston Leisure Centre.
