ROYSTON ladies are the North Herts Ladies Fours Champions after a comfortable victory against Baldock on Saturday.
The North Herts Women's Bowling Association Finals were held at Roebuck BC (Stevenage) on Saturday.
Royston were represented in the Fours by Beryl Huckle, Eileen Hyde, Linda O'Flanagan, and skip Shirley Pawson, and were up against Ann Hayward, Heather Stapleford, Rose Castle and Shirley Page representing Baldock.
This was yet another case where the Royston team out bowled their opponents, powering home to win by 14 shots, 24-10.
Royston ladies have also won the North Herts Fours League (2x4s) by clocking up 32 points, but they did not do so well in the North Herts Triples League, only finishing seventh out of the 11 clubs taking part.
Also on Saturday, Quendon visited Royston to play a friendly of four mixed triples, with Royston easing home 91-50.
Royston took on Riverain (Hitchin) on the neutral green of Baldock in the area semi-finals of the County Club League.
The Royston rink of Roger Davies at lead, Mel Flack, Mick O'Flanagan, and Peter Adams at skip had an easy 24-10 win.
The other Royston rink of Simon Lee at lead, Laurie Ramsay, Don Sheriff, and Stewert Brown at skip managed to win by six shots, 21-15 to wrap up a 45-25 win to put them into the final.
This area final was played on Sunday with Royston again taking on Baldock.
The Baldock team did not perform on the day, leaving Royston to record a comfortable win on both rinks.
Stewert Brown's rink won 24-14, and Peter Adams rink coasted home with a 22-6 win. Royston are now the North Area Club League champions.
On August Bank Holiday, Royston held their annual Open Pairs Gala Day.
Around twenty-four pairs of contestants from various clubs in the area took part.
This is an all day competition involving four sessions of eight ends per session per pair, each win gaining that pair two points.
The final outcome was not decided until the last session had been completed as four teams were all in the hunt for the big money prize.
In the end, the A team of Brian Pepper and Don Sheriff, having won all their four games and gaining eight points, were announced as the winners, and were presented with the cash prize and the Open Pairs Challenge Cup, to polish for a year.
The runners-up were Eddie Collins and Tony Williams, and in third place were Will Martin and Mick Harvey.
On Wednesday Royston Vets were in action away, against the North Herts BC with five mixed triples. This was a very close game with North Herts just beating Royston 79-75.
In the Meldreth and District League, Royston played the last game away against Sawston on Thursday.
This resulted in a fairly comfortable win for Royston by 25 shots, giving them another six points and Sawston only one.
Royston have now won their half of the draw and will play the final against Steeple Morden on Sunday at Meldreth Bowls Club.
On Friday, Royston ladies confronted the ladies from the Aston BC in a North Herts two triples game.
The Royston team of Joan Knights, Cynthia Peppe and skip Pat Smith, won 17-13.
The other Royston triples of Marian Collinge, Eileen Sheriff, and Pam Keating won by 20 shots, 27-7.
