PANTHERS won a competitive, evenly matched game played to a high standard with a solitary first half goal.

The two sides usually provide a fine display and this was no exception, and it took a high quality goal to separate them.

James Rushton found Willem van de Ven in space with a fine pass, and Willem drew the defence before slotting the ball neatly into the path of the advancing Charles Johnson, who confidently stroked the ball home in the resulting one-on-one.

The visitors pushed hard for an equaliser with some fine corner deliveries met equally by fine defensive headers, especially by James Rushton.

A brilliant fingertip save by Panthers' keeper Ross Cockburn denied a certain equaliser bound for the top corner.

As the game wore on the Melbourn midfield, inspired by the dynamic Rushton, won important possession, and with Johnson shielding the ball well up front, Dynamos closed out the victory.

Royston Town Colts U-11 7 Melbourn Dynamos Tigers 0

DESPITE the extra hour gained by the clock change the Tigers were caught napping at the opening whistle resulting in a Colts goal after just two minutes of play.

After this slow start the Tigers midfield started to work together and the defensive efforts of Jack Hammond, Sam Robinson and Josh Chamberlain resisted some sustained pressure by the Colts attack.

The 10-minute mark saw a good effort on goal by Ben Cattley parried by the Colts keeper, which was swiftly followed up by Brennan Friel just missing out to the advancing goalkeeper.

The midway point saw the Tigers concede another goal to a good move by the Royston side, this was despite another superb goalkeeping display by Jack Ovens between the posts.

Some good pressure from the Tigers immediately followed the Colts goal as Matt Davies, Clyde Thompson and George Birch got to work in the midfield, with Tom Lee and Brennan Friel carving out some rare opportunities up front.

The final minute of the first half saw the Tigers awarded a free kick after Friel was brought down as he advanced on goal, Tom Lee struck a good effort which was held on to by the Colts keeper.

The start of the second half saw more positive runs from the Tigers followed as Tom Lee released Adam Breeze down the right wing, Breeze attacked the line and sent the ball into the box resulting in the Colts having to defend strongly denying the Tigers a shot on goal.

Despite a great effort by the Tigers more Royston goals followed, however the Tigers did not drop their heads and continued to work in all areas of the pitch with Friel continuing to make attacks from midfield.

Melbourn Dynamos Panthers 0 Pin Green Juniors 1

AN unseasonal sunny Sunday saw the visitors Pin Green set off at a lightening pace.

Early on both teams showed good vision with accurate passing and some excellent game play. Frantic end to end football saw both keepers tested. Pressure on the Panthers goal was denied by some brave gathering of the ball by Scott McGee

A quick break down the left hand side saw Harry Carter's cross go begging after he had rounded a few of the Pin players and found a lack of support in the oppositions goal mouth.

Both sides had opportunities from corners go scuttling across the goalmouth or hustled away by the defending side.

Green's first half winner came from some indecisive defending and some unlucky bobbling of the ball in the Panthers goalmouth.

Panthers were quick to respond and a break and cross from Steven Beattie found the out stretched boot of Josh Joyce but was pushed the wrong side of the post.

The referee awarded the Panthers a penalty for a handball incident, but Harry Carter blasted the spot kick at the keeper.

The second half was played with both teams taking some optimistic shots at goal and although the Panthers were still making the passes and showing some good vision, the finishing was lacking.

SAM Chamberlain gave Melbourn the perfect start with a goal after 30 seconds, but it was not enough to prevent Tigers being hit for six.

Chamberlain netted both goals, but a poor second half saw Green net four times to take the Crow League points.
