ROYSTON TOWN 2 (C Geldart, M Saunders) OXHEY JETS 1 (I Bywater) LATE goals from Chris Geldart and Mark Saunders snatched victory for Royston on a night of high drama at Garden Walk. The Crows looked to be heading towards a fourth straight defeat until Geldart struck in the 87th minute, with Saunders grabbing the winner five minutes later. There can be little doubt, however, that referee Andrew Medlock played a massive part in the victory for Mark Saggers' team. He appeared to become increasingly annoyed with the constant whingeing of he visitors. And his harsh dismissal of goalscorer Ian Bywater early in the second half, and his decision to award a corner just before Royston's first goal, when Joff Dobson had clearly kicked the ball out of play, incensed visiting skipper Chris Harding so much, he joined Bywater in the dressing room after being sent off for dissent. In a game of two clearly contrasting halves, visiting keeper Kevin Paul did not bring off a save in the first half, while Barry White in the Crows' goal was never troubled after the break. The visitors opened strongly, with Mark Ayres firing wide after a good move and Jamie Arthur slicing a corner on to a post after being left unmarked at a corner. White brought off a pair of good saves from Paul Haynes. And Haynes managed to miscue when faced with an open goal after a good cross-field ball from Karl Bull. White continued to keep his side in the game with two saves from Arthur. But the visitors eventually made the breakthrough five minutes before the break, when Bywater scrambled the ball home after Royston had failed to clear a left-wing cross. Arthur could have doubled the lead within two minutes with a long range shot, but that proved to be Jets' last real effort on goal as the Crows started the second half in fine form. A Carlo Silenti piledriver which was blocked set the tone, and both Saunders and Stuart Snowden went close during the opening minutes. The key moment came in the 57th minute when Silenti trapped the ball between his legs while on the ground, but Bywater's clumsy attempt to get the ball should have earned him no more than a booking. However, after consulting his linesman, Mr Medlock gave Bywater a straight red card, and within 90 seconds he had also booked keeper Kevin Paul for dissent. Geldart replaced the ineffective Jez McMurrough as Royston pushed forward, and Chris Ingram was lucky to remain on the pitch after an appalling late challenge on Dobson. As the visitors became increasingly undisciplined, their fury at Mr Medlock was increased when Dobson deflected the ball out of play, and Geldart was left unmarked from the resulting corner to power the ball home. With Harding seeing a straight red card after launching a tirade at the referee, Dave McMurrough replaced Jason Nash as the hosts pushed forward in search of a winner, and it came two minutes into injury time, when Saunders rose above the visiting defence to head home a corner. There was still time for McMurrough to be both booked and injured after running straight into Ben Stewart, but the Crows had done enough to move above Jets into 14th place.
