JENNY Jarvis won the Ladies Club Championship at Royston Golf Club last week.

Her 36 hole total of 156 secured a one shot victory from regular county player Jenny McGuigan.

Jarvis' morning round of 79 trailed McGuigan by two shots, but her steady afternoon play after a double bogey at the first saw her return a back nine of two over par and a total of 77.

McGuigan could not retain her morning form and dropped six shots on the first six holes of the back nine, which saw her hopes of landing the title disappear. Jarvis, pictured, has now reduced her 10 handicap to eight.

Debbie Pitfield had a strong morning round of 86 off her 19 handicap, but she too fell away in the afternoon, although she did have the consolation of finishing runner-up in the nett competition with 143, seven strokes behind Jarvis.

Libby Toby won the bronze trophy with a round of 95, just pipping Mary Mitchell. In the bronze handicap, Alice Lewis took the title with a nett 74, just ahead of Judith Osler.

Eleven-year-old John Middlemass won the junior 72 hole trophy after a marathon four rounds in four days.

His total of 269 (11 under par) was three shots better than runner-up Greg Fyson. Tom Trimble won the scratch prize and with many of the competitors reducing their handicaps, the Junior Championship on September 3 looks like being a very close affair.

Junior captain Oli Bance won the scratch prize at Royal Cromer Golf Club this week, completing a round of level par 72, which has seen his handicap reduced to 2.8.

Marcus Shipley was another who performed well shooting a round of 74 which has also seen him cut his handicap to five.

James Sandford, a county under-14 player from Royston Golf Club, has been having a terrific season.

In January his handicap was 18, but under the expert eye of professional Sean Clark, his handicap has come tumbling down and after recording scores of 74 at both Letchworth and Hanbury Manor, his handicap is now six..

Ben Bennett won the Saturday Medal (80-12=68), just ahead of James Kidd (72-3=69), with Chris Taylor securing third spot (87-18=69).

The fourball stableford played on Sunday was won with 44 points. Gary Fortune and Darren Dawson were the clear winners and finished two points ahead of a quartet of pairs.

Second place after countback went to Gary Noble and Alastair Livesey. Third were John Davison and Keith Jest who pushed Colin Clark and Tony Baker, together with Nick Scott and Richard Howorth out of the prizes.
