ON A day the BBC weather forecasters got it right 61 intrepid members and guests of Heydon Grange battled out the EuroPro Course in sun, wind, rain, and the occasional clap of thunder in aid of Breast Cancer research.

- The PGA EuroPro Tour will visit Heydon Grange Golf and Country Club for a third successive year next week.

The event has been a huge success in previous years, and will be bigger than ever in 2006, with the involvement of schools in coaching clinics.

The tournament itself will be staged from June 8-10, with a Pro-Am preceding the main event to give businesses and players the chance to play alongside the future stars of golf.

"We are delighted to be returning to Heydon Grange," said PGA EuroPro Tour managing director Eddie Hearn.

"John Akhtar has been superb in supporting the world's leading developmental tour in recent years, and this year the players will be involved in a new initiative with schoolchildren.

"We've promoted the event in all local schools, who will be coming down to the event to attend clinics from our star players.

"They will also get the opportunity to sample the outstanding new driving range at Heydon Grange, which opened last year."

John Akhtar, chairman of Heydon Grange GC, said: "It gives us great pleasure to once again host the PGA EuroPro Tour. While we are supporting the current crop of young professionals, it is also important to nuture the stars of tomorrow, which is why we are delighted to have so many local schools involved in the event.

"As well as being able to watch some top emerging players in action in front of the Sky Sports cameras, they can also get tips from the stars, and perhaps play their first shots.

"Hopefully this will help to encourage local youngsters to take up the sport - we could even see a future PGA EuroPro Tour or event European Tour winner!"

Wednesday June 7 will see an 18-hole Pro-Am take place, with three-man teams being joined by a PGA EuroPro Tour star.

Places in the Pro-Am can still be booked by calling Linda at Heydon Grange on 01763 208988.
