JACK Beck led the way with 19 points as Greneway School's Year 7 team hammered Highfield School 62-24 last week. The visitors had played three matches already winning two and narrowly losing to Barnwell, so the scene was set for a tight match. From the tip Greneway won possession and quickly scored. They then defended resolutely as a team and caused many turnovers which they converted into more points with good finishing, especially with lay-ups. Highfield battled with great energy to combat the Greneway all-court game and the quarter ended 22-12 to Greneway. The second period was much in the same vain as both teams tried to play passing, fast basketball. The individual and team defence of the hosts proved impenetrable for the visitors as the Royston school won the period 8-0. The third period saw both teams increase the tempo and the match became an end-to-end affair with good passing basketball from both teams. The quarter ended with Greneway still in control at 49-18. The final quarter saw a more relaxed Greneway five dominating offence and defence. The latter was particularly improved with better, quicker footwork resulting in increased turnovers and points as the hosts cruised to a 62-24 victory. Daniel Jinkerson added 16 points, with captain Adam Monti (23) and Scott Elliott (20) dominating the rebounds. - Greneway received a walkover in their Year 8 game against Priory School on Thursday and will now play in the Championship final at Royston Leisure Centre, on Thursday March 9, tip-off 4.15pm.
