WAYNE Hunt emerged as the top player in the Monthly Medal played at Royston Golf Club on Sunday.

The extremely difficult weather conditions made scoring very hard, and in Division One, Hunt was the only player to match his 12 handicap, with a nett 70.

His superb inward nine of only three over par, in the worst of the conditions, has also earned him a spot in the Medal Winners final.

Countback was required to separate the next three players, who all scored nett 71. 12 handicapper Nick Scott, had the best back nine to pip Adrian Shoebridge.

Steve Rogers was the unlucky to finish just outside the prizes, but had the consolation of reducing his handicap further as the course scratch score went up to 72.

The best scratch score of the day was a 73 by Stuart Phillips.

Alan Evans and Sid Seward tied in Division Two, but the back nine of Evans was far superior and saw him win by four shots on countback.

Both players finished on nett 71, just one shot ahead of Bill Sandford, who battled hard to challenge his playing partner Evans.

Royston play host to the Cambridgeshire Area Golf Union on Sunday, when the county team take on Essex in their annual match. Scratch player Stuart Phillips will lead out Cambridgeshire on his home course.
