TWO first-half goals from Mark Wright kept Town's good run of pre-season form going with a fourth straight victory, on Saturday.

Both sides fielded relatively young sides, with Paul Attfield missing a number of players from previous games.

Another encouraging performance will undoubtedly give the Town boss selection problems for their first league encounter against Met Police Bushey, on Saturday.

The home side took the lead in the 17th minute when Alec Thomas's corner was headed back across goal by Gary Christie for new signing Wright to head home.

Another excellent cross from Thomas should have resulted in a second goal for Town in the 27th minute, but there was no one to provide the finishing touch.

On a tight pitch, and with the wind making cross-field passing difficult, both sides struggled to keep the ball in pay at times, but the visitors could have equalised on the half-hour mark when a perfect cross from James Kirkland was allow to creep past the far post.

Will Turl for Town and Kirkland both went close to adding to the scoreline for their respective sides before Wright made it 2-0 eight minutes before the break when he charged down a clearance from keeper Alan Moore, with the Town striker fortunate to see the ball roll into an empty net from eight yards.

After the break, 15-year-old Jordan Gibson marked his first team debut with a good save from Ashley Norcott, and an end-to-end second half saw both teams have chances to add to the scoreline.

Swifts' Chris Moyles had the ball in the net on the hour mark, only to see it ruled out for offside, with Marcus Nichols and Moyles again also going close.

Both Tom Malins and Will Turl had efforts off target for Town, but Gibson had the last word for the home side when he saved a curling free-kick from Kirkland to record a clean sheet.

Town squad: J Gibson, L Endacott, D Chaffey, A Thomas, T Malins, C Wisson, G Christie, M Smith, W Turl, A Townsend, W Turl, M Roach, D Cain, M Wright.

- Town's reserve side completed a double against Swifts, winning 5-1 in a game played immediately after the first team game.

Ricky Lawrence was on target twice, with Danny Lane, James Williamson and Clark all getting on the scoresheet.

Haverhill Rovers 1

TOWN'S new-look youth team squad played their first game together against Haverhill, at The Bury, on Sunday, and were impressive.

Playing some neat attacking football throughout, matched with a good team work-rate, the signs are that another good squad has been put together for the new campaign.

The performance was capped by some fine individual and well-worked team goals.

Town had a four-goal cushion by half-time thanks to two clinical finishes from Jamie Morriss and a Conor De Lacy volley.

In the second half, Chris Babbage rifled in an early close-range strike to extend the lead before Haverhill reduced the arrears with a fine individual effort.

A number of rotating changes never affected Town's rhythm and Conor De Lacy headed in Will Turl's cross for his second of the game.

Morriss capped a fine individual performance with a screaming goal late on to complete a deserved hat-trick.
