YOUNG Royston golfer Stuart Phillips continues to shine with the amateur celebrating a successful season.

Phillips, right, who plays off plus2, shot a gross 66 to win the men's monthly medal, before adding the WEM Bowl, a Midland Order of Merit tournament which was held at Hawkstone Park Golf Club in Shropshire.

And Phillips impressed once more by finishing runner-up in the Cambridge Area Golf Union County Championships in Ely.

His rounds of 73, 70, 70 and 72 gave him an overall aggregate of three under par, which left the talented youngster just one shot behind eventual winner Lee Yearn.

A flurry of competition activity at Royston has seen Peter Mitchell win the Wednesday Trophy with 39 stableford points, ahead of Doug Moule, John Perkins and Ian Gavine who all finished with 38 points.

The lead score in the Junior Centenary Qualifier was posted by 14-year-old Daniel Smith with net 60 (gross 80-20 handicap).

Smith excelled over the back nine holes, covering them in 37 shots gross. Matthew Barrett secured second spot with a solid net 69 (79 gross-10 handicap).

The gents' fourball stableford was won by James McKenzie and John Griffin with 42 points, who saw off Phil Neep and Barry Buckerfield, 41 points.

The ladies June medal was combined with the Buckerfield Trophy, and was won by Alice Lewis whose net 75 (gross 98 - 23 handicap) placed her one shot ahead of runner-up Libby Toby who shot net 76 (gross 97 - 21 handicap).
