THERE was double disappointment for Royston on Saturday as both their sides suffered defeats.

The second team's game was switched for opponents Black Horse's Hertford ground to The Heath due to a waterlogged pitch, but the Crows still went down 30-5.

Dan Carter scored a debut try in the first half, but that was as good as it got for Royston as they failed to compete against a side they had already beaten 28-10 this season.

"It should have been an easy game for us, but we never got going" said a despondent skipper Dave Mason. "All 15 of us never really played."

The first team did not have any luck in their friendly against a strong Stevenage II side, who included several first team regulars, going down 40-12.

"The forwards played well in terrible conditions, and we were the better team for the first 10 minutes" said captain Steve Clay.

"They were a strong side, and they got the ball out wide and scored that way.

"Perhaps it's what we needed to keep our feet on the ground, and we'll look to be a lot better when we travel to Southgate on Saturday."

Royston's two tries were scored by Steve Patmore and Ian Bibbey, with Michael Schurch converting once.

While the first team travel to Middlesex on Saturday, the seconds host Sawston II, kick off 2.15pm.
