ROYSTON TOWN 3 (T Galvin, L Rogers, R Dove) HARINGEY BOROUGH 0 ON THE night Joff Dobson made his return to the Crows' first team, Royston produced a dominant performance to take the Spartan South Midlands League points. Dobson retired from the game following the Crows' 1-0 FA Vase win against Norwich United on October 1, but was persuaded to rejoin the club after Saturday's debacle at Aylesbury. Manager Mark Saggers had spoken glowingly about the 34-year-old striker after his decision to return to Garden Walk. "Joff will give you everything he's got, whether he's having a good or bad day. The fact that he's still our joint top scorer sums up how we've done without him. He wants to win and will give everything for us." Although he did not get on the scoresheet, the return of Dobson seemed to lift the Crows as they comfortably defeated basement side Haringey. The win should prove a boost for the struggling Crows, but to put it into context, if they are to avoid being caught up in the relegation dogfight they simply have to win their home games against the likes of Haringey. With home games against strugglers Biggleswade Town and Harpenden Town on the next two Saturdays they will need to win both of them to avoid another season of struggle. Saggers made several changes from the side heavily beaten on Saturday, with Ryan Cannon, Peter Flack and Paul Lamont all returning to the side alongside Dobson, and the hosts started strongly. They opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Cannon's left wing cross flashed across the goalmouth, and as Tom Galvin's shot from the left looked set to cross the line, it was handled by Borough defender Tommy Catania. Curiously, Catania escaped without even a telling off from referee Mr Raval, when a red card seemed certain, but Galvin's well-struck penalty beat Danny Wight in the visitors' goal. From then on, Royston never looked like failing to take all three points, with their best effort in the rest of the first half coming when Jez McMurrough sent a half-volley just wide after a good flick from Dobson. Lee Rogers should have won his side a second penalty two minutes after the break when he failed to go down under a heavy challenge in the box, but it was the diminutive midfielder who netted the second 12 minutes later, when he was left unmarked to head powerfully home from a left-wing corner. McMurrough and Dobson both went close to netting a third, before substitute Richard Dove wrapped things up eight minutes from time with probably the luckiest goal he will ever score. His cross from the left should have caused little problem for the visitors, but two defenders and Wight all managed to miss it before the ball nestled in the far corner. Royston: B White, P Lamont, R Cannon (M Saunders), M Thorogood, P Flack, M Williams, L Rogers, S Snowden, J Dobson (D McMurrough), J McMurrough (R Dove), T Galvin. Unused subs: S Worthington, J Nash.
