Fowlmere 1 Barrington 2

REDUCED to 10 men, Fowlmere slipped to their third straight defeat on Saturday in a highly contested derby with Barrington.

In an entertaining encounter, it was the hosts who started the brightest with their intelligent play rewarded by Nick King's 25th minute opener, following Karyl Darcey's corner.

However, the visitors responded well and were on level terms just before half time when Carl Chadwick bundled the ball home following a well-taken corner.

After the interval, Fowlmere again came out strongly with chances falling to the returning Danny Mizon, Darren Dyer and new signing Shaun Douglas.

However, the Fowlmere play was disrupted when Bobby Cripps received a red card following a midfield altercation, much to the dismay of both teams.

And with the hosts forced to re-shuffle their pack, it was Barrington who began to take control with Rob Wright popping up with 15 minutes to go with another scrambled finish.

Fowlmere manager Steve Walker said: "For us the game was fairly frustrating and I think we did enough to come away with something.

"It was an even game it terms of possession, although I would say that we created the better chances.

"Unfortunately we didn't take them, and Barrington just edged us out. It was a disappointing sending off too, because I think that Bobby was very unlucky to see red.

"He caught a player quite high, but there was nothing in it really. Even their players thought he was unlucky to go.

"A draw would have probably been a fair result, but fair play to Barrington, because they were up for the game and did what they needed to do."

Fowlmere will be hoping to turn things around on Saturday, when they take on Fulbourn Institute Reserves, having slipped to eighth place in the table.

Walker said: "We desperately need three points on Saturday, and we have a good chance of getting a decent result.

"We've lost our way of late, but there are still a lot of positives to take from our games.

"We've got defender Matt Poole back, so that will be a big boost, having leaked too many cheap goals. He should tighten things up a bit."
