JAMES Clare starred for Royston Rugby Club under-14s at the weekend with his eight tries helping his side to a devastating 74-0 win.

The young Crows bounced back from last week's county cup defeat and comprehensively put Old Albanians to the sword.

Clare set Royston on the road with two early tries, the second from a five metre scrum.

And following Louis Boulter's clever kick, Clare had his hat-trick when he pounced on a loose ball.

Clare scored his fourth shortly after, running the ball from his own 22, before Boulter used Tom Stone's pace to great effect, when he outpaced the visitors' defence to add a further five points.

And with Boulter adding three conversions, The Crows went into half time 31 points ahead.

Royston continued to dominate the second half, with their quick and accurate passing creating space for a brilliant James Murdoch try, and another slick move fed Clare in for his fifth.

A quick pass from a scrum sent Murdoch in for his second of the day, before Clare grabbed his second hat-trick.

Clare then added another, storming through a tiring Albanians defence, again from his own 22-metre line.

He then went over for try number eight, after Alex McGoldrick's surging run.

And following some excellent play from Adam Richardson, Thomas Piper crossed the line to score his first try for the club.

Boulter added four second-half conversions.
