ROYSTON assistant manager Rob Henry rapped his side for "going to sleep" after they let a one-goal lead slip in the last few minutes of their match with Bedford Town Reserves.

The Crow's had taken the lead early in the second half through Albert Adu Dony Inah but wilted in the closing stages allowing Bedford to snatch an equaliser.

Henry said: "We should have won the match, and totally dominated it for long periods.

"Unfortunately we just went to sleep at the back for a few minutes and let them get back into it. It was very hot out there and I think that was a factor too."

Despite the result, Henry and boss Phil Snowdon were happy with many aspects of their side's performance against Bedford, one of the favourites for the league title.

Henry said: "We passed the ball well at times - we just need to make sure the players stay switched on.

"Consistency is the key but that's difficult to achieve when you have so many young players.

"Of course it's nice to pick up your first point of the season, but we should have had all three."

There was more frustration for Royston when Tuesday night's game with Cheshunt Reserves was abandoned after a bad injury to a Cheshunt player midway through the second half.

Royston were leading 2-1 at the time, having taken a 2-0 first-half lead, thanks to an own goal and a strike from Lee Rogers.

Henry said: "There was no malice involved. Their lad went in for a tackle and caught his foot in the ground.

"They think he's dislocated his knee so we had to call an ambulance and it was agreed to abandon the match.

"It was a shame because I thought we'd played some of our best football of the season in the first half."

This Saturday, Royston travel to Harringey Borough, a team who were relegated with Royston last season.

"We know all about them," Henry said.

"They came down with us last year, so there's a bit of rivalry there.

"On our day and with all our players available we're a match for anyone.

"Unfortunately, so far this season we've had players out through injuries, suspensions, and other commitments outside football.

"But we'll have them in for training tonight (Thursday) and see who's available for the weekend.
