FOR the first time in the club's history, Royston Golf Club's members betterball stableford competition was a tie.
It was close from start to finish, with the partnership of Chris Little and Barry Rouse tieing with Ian Dell and Nigel Thomas on 42 points, both just ahead of Stuart Hunt and Duncan Easley.
John Nicholl of Royston Golf Club said: "Normally when the scores are even, a result can be found based on the scores of the nine previous holes, failing that the last six, three, two, and then the final hole.
"However, in this case the scores were identical. So after much research, going through the rule books and websites, and talking to our professional, Sean Clark, we decided to declare the competition a tie - which is something that has never happened before.
"The rules of golf, whether playing or scoring, can be complex and sometimes difficult to understand.
