ROYSTON TOWN 0 HILLINGDON BOROUGH 1 (J Dobson og) A Joff Dobson own goal cost the Crows a share of the points after a battling performance against FA Vase finalists Hillingdon, on Tuesday. Veteran Dobson, making one of his sporadic appearances for Mark Saggers' team, headed a cross over the advancing Barry White in the 22nd minute to extend the west London side's unbeaten run to 15 league games. Dobson's mistake marred an otherwise impressive performance as the Crows soaked up lots of pressure from a side who will meet Nantwich Town at Birmingham City, in May, in the Vase final. It was the kind of battling display which, if reproduced over the course of the season, would have seen Royston comfortably occupying a mid-table position. As it is, the Crows go into Saturday's crunch game against fellow strugglers Ruislip Manor needing a win to ensure another season of Premier Division football. Both teams had early chances, with Lee Rogers firing wide for Royston and Gulad Adan heading past a post. Royston's Ryan Cannon should have done better in the 20th minute when he latched on to a good ball from Martin Westcott before firing wide while under no pressure. James Duncan saw a shot deflected for a corner, and as the Crows failed to clear the kick, Duncan drove the ball back into the box. As White advanced and called for the ball, Dobson rose above the oncoming forward and headed over the Crows keeper and into the net. He went close to making amends 11 minutes later when he just failed to connect with Chris Geldart's cross. That proved to be the home side's last genuine chance as Borough took control of the game, knocking the ball around well without creating much in the way of goalscoring opportunities. White did produce a good save from Duncan, while Jez McMurrough - playing in an unfamiliar midfield role - headed a corner wide 14 minutes from time during a second half which saw little action in either area. Saggers gambled late in the game with the introduction of Dean Jeffries and Peter Flack to supplement Westcott and Dobson, but Hillingdon comfortably held on to ensure that Royston's battle to secure a place in next season's Premier Division hangs in the balance. Royston: B White, P Lamont (P Flack), C Geldart, S Snowden, P Chappell, J McMurrough (D Jeffries), L Rogers, J Nash (G Bambridge), J Dobson, M Westcott, R Cannon.
