Impressive results for Royston Rockets on home turf

Royston Rockets BMX Racing Club hosted the fourth round of the BMX East Region Winter Series on Sunday with over 100 riders representing the region's clubs.
In the seven-and-under category Evans Webber made the main final to finish in eighth while in the male eight-year class, Royston had four riders with Joshua Webb taking a fine win ahead of Patrick Harper in third.
Evie Somerville, competing with the boys, finished in fourth place and Oliver Probert was sixth.
In the nine-year-old male class Dominic Hines took third with Hugo McFarlane-Cushing finishing in fifth ahead of Brandon Bell in eighth and Ashton Eady in ninth.
The girls’ classes also served up a great result for the club with Annalise Cadman-Carpenter taking the win in the nine-10 category.
The male 11 and 12 year classes were combined to give riders more competition and Harriet Alexander battled against the boys to take sixth place with Freddie Cadman-Carpenter in ninth.
Hayden Turner who took sixth in his class with William Murfitt in eighth.
The 13 and 14-year-old boys’ category were also combined but this did not stop 13-year-old Joshua Izzard from taking a emphatic win.
In the 15/16 class Louis Foreman was the first 15-year-old across the line, taking second overall.
James King, 16, also showed the field how to ride the Royston track as he took first in the 17 plus class against experienced competition.
To give the riders more competition, the Cruiser classes are combined for the Winter Series and the three Rockets had a tough day against a wide age range of male and female competitors, although Alyx Foreman was the first female rider across the line.
Wesley Cushing just missed a semi-final place from the qualifying rounds taking 12th overall while the more experienced John Somerville made it to the main final where he finished in third place.
The East Anglia Regional Winter Series continues with round five at Ipswich on February 19.
The Royston club’s own winter series continues on February 4.
The Rockets have a series of practice and coaching sessions planned through the winter – weather allowing.
