A BRACE from Owen Russell helped Royston I to a much needed 3-2 victory over Enfield on Saturday.

The hosts began strongly and outplayed Enfield for most of the game, who failed to create a single open play scoring opportunity.

Royston took the lead with an outstanding strike by Chris Welding and soon added to their tally with Russell's first of the day.

Enfield eventually responded but only threatened via penalty corners.

Russell kept a calm head to seal the result with a finish from a tight angle before the visitors grabbed a consolation.

Royston II lost 3-2 to St Albans after conceding a goal in the dying minutes.

St Albans edged into the lead before a depleted Royston side went further behind in the second half.

Royston scored two goals from short corners - one struck by Nick Broadley and another shot by Pete Belcher which was deflected in by Darren Hicks only for St Albans to score the winner.

Royston III lost 3-0 to Luton Vagrants to leave them in relegation trouble.

Luton took control with an early second half goal via a swift counter-attack, and they added two more in a minute mid-way through the period and the match was effectively won.

Defeat leaves Royston needing to win their final match of the season and then hope other results go their way if they are to remain in the division.

Royston Ladies I lost 2-1 to Shefford and Sandy while the Ladies II beat Bedford 2-1.
