Welwyn Pegasus 1

COLTS continued their unbeaten start to the season with a fine 5-1 win at home to Welwyn Pegasus.

Town dominated the early periods of the game with Willis-Wright, King and Garbut all going close without result.

Falleta pounced on a spilled ball only to have his shot saved by the keeper.

Welwyn's first break came moments later as they worked the ball through the midfield to put their centre forward through on goal. Excellent play by Martin Green removed the danger.

A mix up on the left side of the field saw Town concede a corner. King headed clear only to have that ball met by a Pegasus centre back.

His lovely strike left keeper Seabroke helpless and put the visitors 1-0 ahead against the run of play.

Town continued to press for the remainder of the half with Anderson and Hunter keeping Pegasus out and Townsend and Sartini both solid in the centre.

However the play remained narrow and despite determined efforts from Sartini and Anderson, Town's desperation to score seemed to prevent them from playing quality football.

The second half started with a bang and never slowed. From the kick off the ball was worked wide on the left to substitute Leighton.

He immediately attacked, weaved his way through the Pegasus defence and coolly slotted the ball left and low past the keeper to put town level.

Moments later King sent the ball wide right to Willis-Wright who launched a thunderbolt from the touchline that flew over the stranded keeper and dipped into the top left hand corner.

Town's third goal followed a free kick as Welwyn scrambled to clear King found himself with the ball near the right corner flag. From an almost impossible angle he elected to shoot and to the amazement of those watching found the back of the net.

Brennan then took a free kick quickly and found man-of-the-match King in space. He chipped the keeper for his second and put town 4-1 ahead.

Pegasus came back fighting and a wonderful ball through the midfield put their forwards in space for what looked like a certain goal.

In a move which showcased his talent Martin Green ran like a gazelle and tackled like a tiger to clear the danger. Leighton then won the ball on the left passed down the line to Hunter whose precision cross was headed home by Ellis King for his hat-trick.

Again Pegasus came out strongly and fired a fierce shot toward the Town goal forcing an excellent save from Seabroke.

The match finished as the second half had started with Leighton dicing the Pegasus defence and sending the ball low and left only for it to bounce back off the woodwork as the final whistle blew.
