HEYDON Grange Golf Club celebrated its third Annual Reunion of Past Captains and Club Champions recently with a Stableford competition over the Essex and Cambs courses, with participants playing off seven-eighths handicap.

This event enables past captains and club champions to get together and meet old friends and foes – at golf that is – for a friendly day’s play and the chance to reminisce.

The winner of the ladies’ prize was Tina Broadley, a former Ladies Champion, while Trevor Clifton, a past club captain, took the men’s award.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Jane Patterson, a past ladies captain and to Andy Lawson, the current men’s champion.

Meanwhile, the Spitfire Salve trophy was won by Trevor Clifton and Dave Sephton. They won on count back ahead of last year’s winners Phil Black and Tony Leigh who also scored a creditable 38 points.

The trophy was originally presented to Heydon Grange by past member David Smallman, and is played for each year around the Battle of Britain day to commemorate those pilots who flew from surrounding airfields and who lost their life serving their country.

Played in pairs, last year’s winners, Phil Black and Tony Leigh, narrowly missed retaining their trophy when they lost out to Trevor Clifton and Dave Sephton on count back over the last 3 holes. In extremely windy conditions, both teams returned a creditable points total of 38.
