England captain Harry Kane currently leads the race for this summer’s Golden Boot ahead of Romelu Lukaku and Cristiano Ronaldo but can you remember who topped the goalscoring charts in previous World Cup tournaments?
The first time an award was given to the top goalscorer was in 1982, under the name Golden Shoe, when Italy’s Paolo Rossi topped the charts with six goals.
If there is a tie, the award goes to the player with the most assists. If there is still a tie, the winner is the player who played the fewest minutes.
It was re-christened the Golden Boot in 2010 when four players tied with five goals, the winner being decided by virtue of a higher number of assists than the rest.
