Royston II 24 Hertford V 20
ROYSTON'S second team opened their home league account with a victory in a tight game.
The home side played the first 10 minutes of the match in Hertford's 22 and eventually broke the deadlock through a break by Chris Wallace, who offloaded the ball to lock Charles Fidler.
Fidler got the ball to man of the match Gary Ryall who was able to release Rob Spragg to score, unconverted.
However, Royston's good start was let down by their poor discipline, allowing Hertford back into the game to take a 17-5 lead at half time.
After some stern words during the interval, Royston hit back hard as Stuart Highland crossed the line unconverted.

Royston clearly had their tails up and a third try was soon to follow, as Stef Gordon scored neared the posts, converted by young Will Cotterill.
The referee had spotted a high tackle during the grounding of Royston's try and awarded them a penalty on half way. From a quick tap the ball was fired down the Royston back line to centre Ronnie Barker, who combined well with skipper Dave Mason who scored under the posts.
Cotterill was again able to add the extra two points. A late penalty by Hertford brought a nervous end to the game, but Royston held on to win 24-20
