Great Chishill I were outplayed by Longstanton I on Saturday in Cheffins CCA Senior League Division Three but gave a good account of themselves.

Longstanton made a mammoth 302-3, with Jonathan Newman's impressive century and Dalton's 81 showing the way.

Skipper Guy Musson took responsibility for his side's reply with 48 and the versatile Martin Sorrell hit the heights with a fine half century. Ed Gough showed his cricket skills are still alive and kicking with a polished 45 and the visitors managing to claw back some respectability.

n Great Chishill II came agonisingly close to springing a surprise against Division Four C leaders Barrington II, losing by just 14 runs in a high-scoring affair.

Douglas had made 65 to guide the visitors to 196, with Don Chilton taking 4-47. Simon Coxall made a welcome return to form with 59 before a partnership of 54 between Kirk Chilton and Gary Wright saw Chishill get within 50 runs of victory. But it wasn't to be as they fell 14 runs short.
