AFTER their first defeat of the season last weekend, Foxton bounced back in style with Andrew Gray taking six wickets in an 87-run victory over Bluntisham.

The visitors decided to bowl first, which looked a good call when they had Foxton dangermen Patrick Joseph caught for a duck, and Max Bowen bowled for just 2.

However, Lawrence Farnum hit a brilliant 95, that included 16 fours.

Antonnel Atwell (44) and Paul Dean (42) both gave Farnum able support, while Scott Howes-Doody's 14 took them to 234, and at that point Foxton declared after 43.4 overs.

In reply, Dighton (9) became the first of Gray's six wickets courtesy of Atwell's calm catch, with Jon Cullen (19), Paul Bigger (27) and Dominic Durose (17) all adding to the Bluntisham's early order.

Andrew Gray then ripped through the Bluntisham order, and Bowen removed Neil Tweedle for 0, as they were all out for 147.

"It was a nice way to bounce back," said Foxton coach Matt Gray.

"We decided to declare at 234 and it proved to be a good decision. We gave them a carrot, but always backed ourselves to deliver.

"Andrew was again in good form and did well to take six wickets, while I thought Lawrence was very unlucky not to have reached 100, because he looked very good throughout.

"We didn't start too well, and it's not often that Patrick is out for no runs, but both he and Max have been in fine form this season so we'll let them off. They can't hit 50 plus runs every week."

The Cambs and Hunts Premier Division Two leaders entertain mid table Abington on Saturday.

Gray said: "I'm expecting a tough game. Abington are a good side and back to near enough full strength. They're playing very well at the moment and have a strong batting line up. So it looks as if it could be a high scoring game."

In Cambs League Junior Division 1B, Barley were comprehensively beaten by nine wickets at league leaders Thurlow.

Barley were all out for just 55, a total the hosts easily reached with the loss of just one wicket.

Barley seconds did record a 30-run win in Junior Division 5C against Thriplow thirds, while league rivals Cokenach seconds registered a five-wicket victory over Barrington seconds.
