Meldreth diver Daniel Goodfellow has bad news for his international rivals – insisting he and Matty Lee have plenty more to give despite opening their World Series account in style.

Teenagers Goodfellow and Lee competed in their first senior international competition as a pair in the men’s 10m synchro at last month’s World Series opener in Beijing.

The duo were far from overawed by the occasion of the 2008 Olympic venue, instead thriving in it as they won bronze before repeating the feat at the next leg a week later in Dubai.

The World Series’ next stop is another Olympic pool this time London’s at the end of the month and, after proving he belongs with the best, Goodfellow is in no mood to slow down.

“This year has been really good so far,” said the 17-year-old.

“It has been mine and Matty’s first World Series and just our second year on the senior circuit and we have won two bronze medals.

“We still made a few errors and there is still plenty of room for improvement. We know we can still dive better and improve and that is the exciting thing.

“Our original objective for the World Series this year was just to use it as experience of competing against the world’s best, but we saw some of the pairs in action and knew we could do better than them.

“It has been a great start, but we are not getting carried away.

“It will be great to compete in the London pool having watched some events there at the Olympics and maybe the pressure of competing in front of a home crowd can be a good thing and bring the best out of us.”

Despite being relatively new to the senior circuit, Goodfellow and Lee are far from strangers to one another having competed at Junior World and European Championships together.

And, after rising through the ranks as a partnership, Goodfellow is convinced his and Lee’s journey towards the top is only just beginning.

“I have known Matty for years and we have already done quite a lot together, we have competed at two Junior European Championships before,” he added.

“We are really good friends after all these years and that really helps us be successful in my opinion.”

Tickets to see Goodfellow compete at the FINA/NVC Diving World Series (25-27 April) are still available.
