MELDRETH-based diver Daniel Goodfellow was named Young Sports Performer of the Year at the recent Living Sport Sports Awards held in St Ives.

The 15-year-old, who is part of the Cambridge Dive Team, will now attend the BBC East Region Awards later this month along with the nine other category winners.

Goodfellow, who earned a bronze medal for Great Britain with a stunning performance at European Junior Diving Championships in Belgrade in the summer, beat off stiff competition from Cambridge triathlete Georgina Schwiening and Peterborough swimmer Liam Knight for the award.

Meanwhile, Melbourn Village College student Sam Robinson was named Barracudas Activity Day Camps Young Community Volunteer of the Year after amassing over 400 hours of voluntary service with the Youth Sports Trust and setting up a basketball scheme at his college. He will also attend the BBC East Region Awards.
